IMPERATIVE: Gives a command or makes a request. Most imperative sentences end with a period. Some strong commands end with an exclamation point. Example: Be quiet when others are talking. (command) Please give me some ice cream. (request) Stop! (strong command) EXCLAMATORY: Shows excitement or strong feeling and ends with an exclamation point. Example: We won the game! INTERROGATIVE: Ask a question and ends with a question mark. Example: Where did you go camping? DECLARATIVE: Makes a statement and ends with a period. Example: I grew up in California. -------------- SIMPLE: Has one subject and one predicate. Example: George Washington was the first President of the United States. It can also have more than one subject or predicate. Example- George Washington and Thomas Jefferson were both presidents. COMPOUND: A sentence that contains two or more simple sentences combined together. Example: I live in Sonora and my sister lives in Truckee. COMPLEX: Contains a dependent clause and an independent clause. Example: Ms. Souther, a new teacher at Cherry Chase, enjoys playing soccer.
