  Spelling Choices-Thursday

YOUR CHOICE!

1.    Choose & complete one activity for spelling homework.  Remember to write your name, your number, and the date at the top of each activity page.2.    Please number the spelling words when doing an activity that requires making a list.3.    Read the directions for each activity carefully.  They have been written to give you clear guidance.4.    All work should be done in your neatest writing.  And remember, spelling counts! ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Word SearchMake a word search using at least ten (10) of your spelling words.  Using grid paper, neatly write the spelling words around the paper one time using capital letters.  Be sure to only write one letter in each square!  Remember to make a list of the spelling words you used for the word search on the back of your paper.  Then fill in the rest of the grid by writing in the letters of the alphabet in any order.  Give your paper to someone else and have them use a marker, crayon, or colored pencil to circle the words as they find them in the word search.  Were they able to find all of them?

Spelling Word ScrambleScramble up your word for someone else to unscramble!  Choose at least ten (10) of your spelling words.  Fold your paper into three (3) columns.  In the first column, neatly write your spelling words.  In the second column, scramble up your words by mixing up the order of the letters.  Then, fold back the first column so it can’t be seen, and give your words to someone else.  See if they can unscramble your words by writing them correctly in the third column!  When your paper is returned to you, unfold the first column and check to see if they correctly unscrambled each word.  How did they do?

AlliterationMake sentences using at least five (5) of your spelling words in which most words begin with the same letter or sound.  For example, of your spelling word is angry, your sentence might be, “Angry ants are always after Andy’s arm.”  Be sure to have each sentence begin with a capital letter and end with a punctuation mark.  Please circle or highlight the spelling word in each sentence.  Be creative and have fun!

Find the Right One!Divide your paper into three (3) columns.  Neatly write at least ten (10) of your spelling words three times in a row, but spell the word correctly only ONE time!  The two other times, incorrectly spell your word.  (Try to come up with believable ways of spelling the word.)  For example, if the spelling word was angry, you might spell it angree in the first column, angrie in the second column, and spell it correctly in the third column.  Don’t always spell it correctly in the same column… mix it up!  Then, give your paper to someone else, and see if they can find the correct spelling of each word.  Have them circle the correctly spelled word with a marker, crayon, or colored pencil.  When your paper is returned to you, check to see your partner’s choices.  Were they able to find the right one?

Colorful WordsChoose at least ten (10) of your spelling words and write each word using different markers, crayons, or colored pencils for each letter.  Try to come up with fun and interesting patterns for your words.  You may use the same pattern for all of your words, or you may use a variety of patterns throughout.  Have fun!

Spelling SyllablesDivide your paper in half vertically.  In the first column, neatly write at least ten (10) of your spelling words.  In the second column, write each spelling word broken up by its syllables.  Use the dictionary to help you.

Work of ArtYou are a famous creative artist who has just been asked to produce a “Work of Art!”  Use a blank piece of paper and creatively write at least ten (10) of your spelling words in different forms.  For example, you might want to write one word in bubble letters, another word in block letters, and another word in cursive letters.  Use markers, crayons, or colored pencils to make your creation come alive.  Try to cover the entire piece of paper.  Good luck and remember… it’s your “Spelling Work of Art!”

PenmanshipDivide your paper in half vertically.  In the first column, write at least ten (10) of your spelling words in your best printing.  In the second column, write your spelling words in your best cursive.

Block It OutUsing at least ten (10) of your spelling words, write each of them neatly on a sheet of paper.  Then take a marker, crayon, or colored pencil and carefully trace a box around the letters of your words.  You should be tracing high for tall letters like “h” and “l”, trace low for letters like “p” and “y”, and trace middle for letters like “a” and “e”.
