Maria Matteis

Third Grade

I have taught at Cherry Chase School since September, 1980. I worked with special education students in a special day class setting for 17 years before making a change into regular education. I received my Special Education Credential in the spring of 1980, my Regular Education Credential in the spring of 1975, and a B.A. in Social Science in the summer of 1974. I completed my college and credential work at San Jose State University. Over the years I have been active in various committees here at Cherry Chase School and also in the Sunnyvale School District. I was on the original committee of parents and teachers who began our Cherry Chase Garden over 15 years ago. I was selected as Cherry Chase Teacher of the year and as Sunnyvale School District Teacher of the Year for the 2004-2005 school year. 

I now coordinate the Student Success Team working with teachers, administrators, and parents to help insure that our students are the very best they can be. I am also serving on the School Site Council which works to develop the school plan and directs the academic focus of our school. I have been married for 27 years and have two children. My daughter is working in Southern California. My son is in his third yeat at Sonoma State University. Since my husband and I are now "empty nesters" we got a dog and named him Winston. The children love to hear stories about Winston's adventures, of which there are many.
