What is the best way to contact Mrs. Matteis?
You may e-mail me at mmatteis@sesd.org, or call the office at (408) 522-8241 and leave a message, or write a note in your child's homework copybook. I always check the copybooks for messages each morning.

Why is homework not listed on the website?
It is very important for your child to become responsible for copying all homework assignments and to make sure they have all materials to complete their homework each night. This practice will help to establish reliable homework habits for the future. They need an organized space where they can complete their homework each night. If you could check to make sure all homework is completed and correct would be a wonderful support for your child in their education.

What do I do if my child is sick?
I will have a list of assignments that were missed and also the homework so you, a neighbor, or your child's friend can pick up the homework in the classroom or at the office. You may email me or call the office to let me know who will pick up the assignments.

What can I do to celebrate my child's birthday?
We will sing "Happy Birthday" to your child just before the morning recess.
It is nice for them to have a little (non-food item) treat to share with the class. This treat should be delivered in the morning before school. The treat should be something that is quickly and easily distributed.

What if I have question or concerns about my child?
If you need to request a meeting with me the best way is to contact me by email, a note in the copybook, or a phone call to the office. Please be specific as to your concern so I can be prepared to answer your questions and concerns.

What do I do if my child will miss school due to a vacation?
I'm sure that you agree with me that missing school is never an advantage for your child. But if it can't be helped I will try to provide your child with some reading and math assignments. Other than that they will have to make up the work missed when they return. I really discourage you from planning vacations during school simply because they miss instruction that can't be made up. It is very hard on your child to make up missed work while trying to keep up with the current work.
