Dear Second Graders and Family:
Welcome to Room 25! It's going to be a very exciting year, and I'm looking forward to getting to know you better. I love it here at Cherry Chase, and I know we're going to learn some fantastic new things together.
Although this is my seventh year at Cherry Chase, I thought you and your family might like to know more about me. I was born and raised in Palo Alto, just a few miles from Sunnyvale. After working for a corporation in Silicon Valley for 12 years, I decided that I really wanted to be with kids every day. So I went back to school and studied very hard to become a teacher. I received my Teaching Credential from the University of San Francisco. I'm also in the process of completing my Masters Degree as well. Believe me, teachers have homework too! I'm married, have two children (a sixth grader and an eighth grader), and two adorable dogs named Penny and Paco,
The big question today was how much homework you are going to get in my class. Starting next week, you will have homework each night on Monday‑Thursdays. I do not assign homework on weekends unless a student falls behind with his or her work. Your homework for tonight is to read this letter with your parents and have them fill out the Information Survey. Please bring it back to class by Monday, so I can learn more about you.
I will also be sending home a newsletter every few weeks so that everyone can read about all the wonderful activities we do in class. Hopefully, you can read it together and share more details about what you learned.
If your parents need to talk to me, they are welcome to call me at Cherry Chase (522‑8241), come by after school, or send me a note. However, the best way to reach me is by e‑mail at c.j.evenhui@sesd.org. I promise to check it every day, even on weekends!
It was great meeting you today, and I'm excited to get the school year started!
Very truly yours,
Mrs. Evenhuis
